One of most exciting technological advances in the field of digital imaging is large format digital cameras. Where we once had to send artwork out of the studio to have a large format color transparency made, we can now shoot a color-corrected digital image in studio. From any size original we can create a 23 x 40" digital image with no film grain. This camera offers a high quality digital solution for shooting flat or 3D artwork, creating files of any size for digital output for print or web.

MORE THAN REPRODUCTION

Although the camera resides in a specially designed production room, we can take the equipment outside of the studio for larger, more diverse applications. Some examples of work we have done: archived a collection of sixty cyanotypes photographed in the 1800's, preserved a 300 page handwritten missionary journal from 19th century China, photographed 3D dioramas for magazine and postcard reproduction, even web work. We photograph artists' sketchbooks for book reproduction and photographed ephemera the artist will use in subsequent work as collage elements for multiples.

TECHNOLOGY

Trillium uses a Phase One PowerPhase FX digital back on a Linhof 4x5 camera with Rodenstock lenses. This equipment is capable of making image captures of 16 bits per pixel, and a file of nearly 400MB. Scans are transferred directly to a Macintosh G4 and then burned to CD for later use. The camera is mounted on a vertical column and may face down to shoot smaller work on the stand below it or swivel up to face the studio wall for shooting larger pieces.
